Joy has been asking about starting a personal blog for a while. Sure, she has Possum Tales, but that has a dedicated purpose (collecting quotes). She wanted something where she could post random thoughts, ideas, etc. She had asked me about tumblr, and if that would work out for her. After setting up a sample account, she was ready to keep it going.
Initially, she was just going to use a default template, but couldn’t find anything she liked. So, I decided to dive into the world of tumblr-templating to try and fulfill her needs.
I spent an entire Sunday afternoon coming up with theme ideas. After some collaboration with Joy, here’s what we managed to come up with:
We decided to go the personal route, showing a photo of her right up front. If you happened to see the impromptu photo-shoot from the other day, you may recognize the photography from this theme.
This theme has proven itself to be very versatile, actually. I’ve decided to release it as “modern rectangles.” I’ll be writing a post describing some of the finer points of the theme, as well as how to set it up to look this cool; the post will be up as soon as the theme is approved. Until then, check out modern rectangles on tumblr.

Icons from this theme, Pictos, are by Drew Wilson.
